Space and Military Hardware Addenda for J-STD-001 and IPC/WHMA-A-620
Hardware headed to space or onto certain military platforms has to survive launch vibration and repeated thermal cycling. The Space Addenda add requirements on top of the base standards to make sure it does.
Both addenda are add-ons, not stand-alone classes. Students take them with their base J-STD-001 or IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
Who it’s for
Aerospace and defense soldering, harness and inspection teams building flight or military hardware.
J-STD-001 Space Addendum
About 4 hours. Written exam, 80% to pass. Students need a current J-STD-001 certification earned within the previous 90 days, or take it in the same visit. Students receive the Space Addendum and an IPC CIS certificate. The addendum stays valid as long as the base J-STD-001 certification.
IPC/WHMA-A-620 Space Addendum
About 2 days, built around real cable work. Students build and install two complete cables, covering solder cups, crimps, machined contacts, lugs, IDC connections, splices, coax, shield terminations, lacing, braid and shrink tubing, and final testing. Written and practical exams, 80% to pass. Students need a base A-620 certification earned within the previous 90 days and basic cable-building skills. Students receive the Space Addendum, a flight-grade cable kit and an IPC CIS certificate, valid as long as the base certification.
